Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says this free rides on Putrajaya Line is in conjunction with the launch of the new MRT line on March 16, 2023.
The newly launched Putrajaya MRT line will be free of charge for commuters until March 31.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said this was in conjunction with the launch of the Putrajaya MRT line today.
The Putrajaya line, the country’s second MRT line, will be fully opened at 3pm.
Feeder buses to the new MRT line will also be free of charge.
The MRT Putrajaya Line, which was developed in two phases, will serve residents from Kwasa Damansara all the way to Putrajaya.
It comprises 36 stations, nine of which are underground, and is expected to serve 104,000 commuters a day.
The project was started by former prime minister Najib Razak but was delayed when Pakatan Harapan formed the government in 2018. It was restarted when Muhyiddin Yassin became prime minister.
Transport to be priority in next budget, says PM
Anwar said public transportation would be given utmost priority in the next annual federal budget, adding that Budget 2023 focused more on education and health.
“I’m not saying the other ministries are not important, but I wanted schools and health to be prioritised (in this year’s federal budget) as it involves everyone.
“Next year will be for transport because people lose productivity due to traffic jams and congestion,” he said.
