The Titiwangsa MRT station could be use as the launchpad for a new mixed development and connectivity hub similar to KL Sentral, one official suggested.
Saying that each MRT Putrajaya Line (MRT2) stations was chosen with specific strategies in mind, MRT2 line director of elevated construction Noor Saidi Muda pointed out that the one in Titiwangsa was already near to Istana Budaya, hospitals, and Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
“We are thinking to develop it into a huge urban development and super bus hub that will rejuvenate and transform the area into a second KL Sentral in our next phase,” he told reporters at a briefing before the launch of the MRT2 Phase Two.
When asked about traffic congestion this could cause as well as other effects to the area, he said the firm did not foresee these to be significant issues.
Besides Titiwangsa, he also said the Ampang Park MRT station could be made into a youth-centric community hub with facilities such as a skate park, depending on future proposals.
The Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) station was planned with its future as a financial Islamic district in South-east Asia in mind, he added.
As for the Chan Sow Lin station, he said it was located strategically to rejuvenate and develop new growth in the fringe areas of the city.
Park and Ride facilities will also be provided at selected MRT2 stations a rate of RM4.30 per entry per day for MRT users. Non-users will be charged RM3.30 for the first hour and RM1.10 for each subsequent hour.
Motorcyclists will be charged RM1.10 per daily entry.
The MRT2 is the second MRT line in Malaysia, and the third fully automated and driverless rail system in the region.
It spans 57.7km in length with a total of 36 stations.
The line stretches from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya and runs through densely populated areas such as Sri Damansara, Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Sentul, Kampung Baru, Jalan Tun Razak, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
Phase one began operations in June last year.
