The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Putrajaya Line Phase Two is expected to begin operations in mid-March, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke (pic).
“MRT 2 will operate from Putrajaya Sentral to Kwasa Damansara,” he said, adding that the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) was currently conducting trial runs on the line.
“Apad has to look into a number of regulatory aspects,” he told reporters at a press conference at his ministry here on Friday (Feb 3).
He said further details on the operations in mid-March would be revealed next week.
In a bid to increase the use of public transport, Loke also encouraged civil servants working in Putrajaya, especially those in the Transport Ministry, to use the MRT line once it is operating.
He said shuttle buses would be provided from Putrajaya Sentral to the respective ministries.
He said this would also reduce rush hour congestion.
“Let’s shift to this mode of transportation,” he said.
On Dec 23, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said the 38.7km line, which consists of 15 elevated and nine underground stations, had been completed and was currently in the operational readiness phase.
There will be 10 interchange stations: Kwasa Damansara (with Kajang MRT Line), Sungai Buloh (with KTM), Sri Damansara Timur (KTM), Kampung Batu (KTM) and Titiwangsa (with Ampang & Sri Petaling LRT Lines, KL Monorail);
Ampang Park (with the Kelana Jaya LRT Line), Tun Razak Exchange (Kajang MRT Line), Chan Sow Lin (Ampang & Sri Petaling LRT Lines), Sungai Besi (Sri Petaling LRT Line) and Putrajaya Sentral (ERL and KLIA Transit Lines).
MRT Corp said the Putrajaya Line alignment would be served by 49 fully-automated train sets, each consisting of four cars, with a maximum capacity of 1,200 passengers.
